Italian police arrest dozens of Mafia suspects from female-led ‘Prickly Pear Lips’ gang

Italian police have arrested dozens of suspected Mafia members in an international operation to dismantle a powerful Sicilian crime group run by women. Over 500 officers took part in the raid on the Laudani clan in the Sicilian port of Catania, nicknamed “Mussi di ficurinia” (“Prickly pear lips”), in a sting that also involved forces in Germany and the Netherlands, Italian police told AFP. On the night of July 24, 1965 a man was found shot in the back seat of his car in a cul-de-sac behind a Soho nightclub, with a loaded rifle beside him.

Despite doctors’ best efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead in the early hours of the following day.

L.A. police spent $22,000 to get Mexican Mafia killer Rene ‘Boxer’ Enriquez to fancy dinner


LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Police Department used an invalid court order and spent $22,000 to bring an imprisoned killer and former gang leader to speak to an exclusive dinner for private executives, according to a report released Friday. In all, 38 LAPD employees worked about 320 hours to prepare for the January event at a downtown building and protect Rene “Boxer” Enriquez while he was there, the inspector general of the city’s police commission wrote.
